May 19, 2014

Gretchen Arndt: I would like to thank everyone for once again making the Magnolia Ridge Antique and Art gathering a huge success.  The addition of the Palmetto Antique Tractor Club was indescribable.  What a treat! Thank you to all the vendors and shoppers who made this year’s event the biggest ever!!! For the 4th year I am left speechless at the end of the day. It is just amazing to be surrounded by such genuine, real, and special people.  A town brought together to celebrate in history and appreciation for nostalgia, how refreshing. After the show I am always left feeling so fulfilled and complete because there is a place left In this world that still appreciates the simple non commercial way of life. Once again I'm left saying only in Ridge Spring, and wow what a compliment that is!! Who wouldn't want to be part of this special town ! Thank you for all your support and allowing us to be part of this wonderful place! Looking forward to next year!!! Gretchen
OLDE TREASURES: Olde Treasures would like to honor our military fallen in battle, deceased, living, and currently serving, by placing their pictures in our windows for several weeks.  We ask that you bring pictures of any and/or all generations in your family to the shop Thursday through Saturday.  Do not bring originals, please make a copy or bring your original for us to copy while you wait.  Put your name on the back and you will be able to pick it up at Olde Treasures when we dismantle the display.  We prefer that you place your pictures in acrylic photo stands that can be purchased at Dollar General for less than $1 to not over $4 depending on the size of your photo.  You will get your stand back when you pick up your picture.  We are also serving light refreshments (cookies and lemonade) this Saturday, May 24th from 10 until 4 in honor of our military.   We are looking forward to having many pictures to display in our windows.  Thanks for your participation in this matter.

CARLENE’S:  We are winding up our ninth month in business and appreciate all of you who come in and purchase items from the shop.  Shopping local is so important and we don’t take your business for granted.  We are always updating our inventory and now have Civil War Relics, Plaques with stainless steel Palmetto Trees on them, a good selection of oil lanterns and quite a good selection of smalls.  We are not just about furniture. We carry items that are antique to unique and a have at least a little something in most categories.   Don’t just peek in the windows; come on in and see what you find.  You just may be surprised!  On a personal note:  I thought Magnolia Ridge Antique and Art Gathering was beautiful!  It was so pleasant and exciting to be on the farm and enjoying all of the vendors and their wares.  Bev and Gretchen, you did a magnificent job!  Thank you.

Ridge spring now has two restaurants that are different but serve great food.  The new Mexican Restaurant is named Miguelito’s Mexican Restaurant.  It is on Main Street in the old post office. They have rearranged the inside and it looks great.  How fortunate for a small town to have such great restaurants.

Library news: School is almost out for summer vacation, and our library has a special section now for pre teens and teens. Come in for some summer reading; note we do appreciate donated books, but we can only accept fiction. Our space is very limited and people just want some easy reading.
There will be a Watson reunion on Saturday, August 2 at The Watson House.  All interested in coming contact Joe Watson at The Nut House, (803) 685-5335.
Joe found another one dollar while picking up trash. This is good but nothing like the reward of hearing a customer say how much they like coming to Ridge Spring because it is so clean an pretty.
Ridge Spring United Methodist Church (RSUMC):
May’s non perishable food items collected by RSUMC members and others will be delivered to the Johnston Food Bank. The Big RedBox is getting full but can always take more contributions. Please leave your donations with Jim Campbell or on the Church of FLC porch. Let’s work together to ensure none of our neighbors goes hungry.
RSUMC received another donation toward the My First Book (MFB) program. RSUMC has funds for 6 children. Requirements: have a Saluda County zip code and be between the ages of birth – 4. There is NO income, high or low, requirement. My First Book is a program for children birth through 4 to receive a book delivered to their home for a year for free. If you have a child or children (can be more than one in a family), or know of a child who lives in Saluda County and is between the ages of birth and 4, contact Nanette Hughes, 685.6071 or Pastor Key, Helpful Hands Mission. Let’s get these kids reading!

The yearbook staff sponsored the 2014 Mr. RSM contest last Thursday. A group of handsome young men strutted their stuff on stage to see who would win the coveted crown.  Rap Leaphart was 2nd runner up; Samuel Bedenbaugh was 1st runner-up.  Travious Wigfall is the new Mr. RSM.

The 1st grade held its annual Egg Drop Contest April 25.  Students had to design a container that would keep a raw egg from cracking when dropped from the roof of the 1st grade building.  There were some very creative containers this year!  Many students’ containers held the eggs intact!
