By the Harvest Festival Chairperson Joanne Crouch

Friends of Ridge Spring: Christmas on the Square is December the 8th and Ridge Spring has a Christmas message we need you to help us deliver. Ridge Spring is producing a Video wishing everyone a Happy Holiday Season and we are inviting you to be a part of it. Please come and help us share this most wonderful message. It will be posted on You Tube and we will be sharing it across social media and with the local television and radio stations for all to hear and see.
Our message is simple; Peace on earth, and for everyone to Have a Happy Holiday Season. The video script and candles will be handed out that night starting at 4:30 so everyone can be a part of it. This is something very different and will be lots of fun and very special especially when you get to share it with everyone you know.
We also want this to be a message of a community coming together as one. We will be showing everyone that Ridge Spring, South Carolina is a community united.
Place: Ridge Spring Gazebo
Date: December 8th
Time: 5:30 pm
We are looking for 3 people to speak one line parts for the message and we are looking for a child and mother or father to start the singing part. Please call Noel @ 803-609-7152 if you would like to volunteer for these parts.
There will be one more Christmas Open House this Saturday.  Hope you come by the shops of Ridge spring and enjoy browsing and buying those gifts, ornaments, poinsettias, and other Christmas items.

Olde Treasures:  Saturday was a fairly busy day with folks coming in support of Shop Small Business Saturday.  At the end of the day we drew for a $50.00 gift certificate and the lucky winner was Shelby Yonce.  She now has plenty of reason to return for a shopping spree at Olde Treasures.  Our booths are getting additional stock in preparation for this Saturday as we celebrate Christmas on the Ridge.  Be sure to head our way to complete your Christmas and Special Occasion shopping.  You’ll have another chance to register for a gift certificate.  See you this weekend.  We are also open Monday from 11:00 until 4:00.

Carlene’s is happy to Congratulate Bonnie Morgan on winning the 42” Wooden Nutcracker that we gave away Saturday.  Ms. Morgan will be picking up her Nutcracker this weekend.  In observance of Christmas on the Ridge this Saturday, Carlene’s will be giving shoppers the opportunity to register for another 42” Wooden Nutcracker.  Great things are happening here on the Ridge.  Come and be a part of them.  You’ll be glad you did.

I thought I would pass along some insight into how to clean vintage linens.  I just recently learned this from a new found friend, Terri.  She shares lots of good stuff with me about how to improve and care for vintage and antique items.  I tried this one this week and it absolutely did the job.  Thank you, Terri for sharing. Terri uses her washing machine, because she says it is an older one and she can control the cycles very easily.  I tried my washing machine which is newer because my older one just died a few months ago.  I prefer using my vegetable prepping sink in the kitchen.  Either way; this is what you do.  Put 1 cup of powdered Oxy Clean in the washer/sink.  Add hot water.  Mix with a spoon to help dissolve the powder. Add the linens.  Add hot water to cover linens.  I used a wooden spoon and pushed up and down on the linens sort of like the agitator in the washing machine would do.  The linens will soak up the water, so you will need to add more hot water as often as needed.  I also add more Oxy Clean and stirred to dissolve. You will need to let them soak at least a couple of hours and longer if the stains are severe. This removed brown spots and some of the gray spots.  It did not remove the pure rust spots.  It also brightens the white and the colors.
I found it to be an absolutely wonderful solution to dull and gray looking linens.

Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas season is upon us.  Thanksgiving and Hanukkah were at the same time of the year.  How nice for all to share in these holidays.
There was Black Friday for all and the Small Businesses day as promoted by American Express.  We thank you for your business.  Several businesses in Ridge Spring had drawings for patrons and the winner of the poinsettia at Harriet’s Garden was Judy Nelson.  The winner of a$30.00 gift certificate from Pat's Corner was Angel Kennedy.
Notice: Every Monday & Friday:  Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings 7:00 pm at The Ridge Spring Library

From Allen Duncan, Monetta - An adult Bald Eagle was seen having lunch Sunday afternoon in James Fallaw’s bean field across from Columbia Farms’ Feed Mill on Highway # 1 in Monetta. The bald eagle was within 100 feet of the edge of the highway so I turned my car around twice to confirm what thought I saw. On my third turn around, I stopped and got out of the car, and he immediately flew off towards Batesburg.

We are making preparations for November 30th, Small Business Saturday and December 7th, Christmas at the Ridge.  Come by for more details.

Carlenes:  We have finally finished resetting the shop.  Lots of new pieces have arrived.  A square five legged table with four pressed back chairs, a Victorian Library Table, the cutest little oak Three Drawer Chest, and an Oak Lighted Gun Cabinet.  Come by Thursday through Saturday.  You never know what you will find; face jugs, lots of neat Dude things, glassware and linens.  Thanks for your support.  We are gearing up for Small Business Day, November 30th and Christmas at the Ridge on December 7th.

Billy Rodgers has a collard patch that is ready for harvesting.  His farm is on highway 39.  Come by, pick your own, and leave the money in the box.  Isn’t it nice to have such honesty still abound.

December 8 will be the Green Thumb Garden Club Christmas tour of Homes.
December 8 will be the Christmas Tree Lighting on the Town Square with Santa Claus arriving inhis own unique way.  Do join us.

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church invites everyone to our Thanksgiving Eve Worship Service Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 7:00 pm.  Refreshments will follow in the Educational Building.
On Sunday, December 1, 2013, Mt. Calvary will have a  “Hanging of the Greens Service” beginning at 7:00 pm.  This service is for the first Sunday in Advent.  It is based on the English tradition of decorating the home with wreaths, garlands, a Christmas tree, and evergreens for Advent and Christmas.  In a church setting, it prepares the sanctuary and members of the church for the season.  It presents the meanings behind the different symbols Christians use during the season.  You will learn the reasons why we use pine and holly, why we decorate our sanctuary with a big tree with Chrismons and what each one means.  This is a wonderful service for all members of the family, young and old.  Please join us as we welcome in the season in which we eagerly await the birth of the Christ Child.  Mr. Steven McKinney, Music Director of Mt. Calvary will be in charge of directing the music and Mrs. Janet Lynn Rodgers will serve as Director.

I love eating at the restaurants in Ridge Spring.  The fresh salads at Juniper are perfect. Every once in a while I bring something form home.  Saturday I brought a sandwich because I knew I could go outside to one of my pots and pick lettuce to put on my sandwich.  It was very good, too.  You can always add a vegetable or herbs to your big pots and have fresh ingredients to your preparations.

Josie Rodgers:
What an exciting football Friday all around! The Trojans traveled to Great Falls and beat the Red Devils!  King defeated Clarendon (again!), and Wardlaw got a bit of revenge beating Carolina Academy!  Thurmond and Batesburg also won to move on the play-offs!  RSM will play HKT this Friday.
The most exciting game will be between Wardlaw and King, FOR THE SCISA 8-MAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!  As of press time, we don’t know the location of this state game.  Isn’t it amazing that so many awesome athletes, coaches, family, and fans are all in one area?  And it is really special that these two schools are connected by family members and friends.  We are very proud of both teams.  In the end, one will be happy and one will be sad, but we will all conduct ourselves with true sportsmanship in the Christian way, just as we practice on a daily basis. Good luck to all teams playing this Friday!

RSM Elem/Mid News (Rene Miller):  What’s Cookin’ at the Ridge?  Find out on Nov. 21 from 5:30-7:30 pm as we take a look into cross-curriculum teaching with common core standards. Remembering a unique individual I asked Joye Gillian Bodie about her father ML Gillian. “You know everyone called him Peter Rabbit because he loved to rabbit hunt so not many people would even recognize him by that name. Thanks for remembering him. You remember he used to be Santa Claus for the town along with water meter reader, water management, police, part of fire department, and he loved the American Legion. You remember that Marilyn Scott’s daddy was Ralph and he worked as a policeman too along with Dave Boatwright. Oh, the memories that flood back when I start to think of those days.”  From me, “I know things have changed and are better for so many people.  Yet it is nice to remember the good, too.”
This past weekend there was the Yon Family Farm Bull Sale and the Antique Tractor Pull at Richland Springs John Fay Berry’s place.  Things were hopping around this area.
