Cristal Gonzalez, junior, writes: On Friday March 28, 2014, the RS-M HOSA and Beta Club united to attend the Special Olympics.  Once they arrived at the designated place, each high school student was paired up with a student from the elementary school. Some students had more than one buddy from the elementary school. Their task was to take their buddies around the track to participate in the various activities offered. Some of these activities included face painting, fence painting, and hat making. After the elementary kids had fun, the high school students sat down with them and ate lunch. All the HOSA and Beta Club students had so much fun, and they also made a new little friend!
Congratulations to Prom Queen Destiny Ligons, Prom King Morgan Havird, Prom Princess Tiana Oakman-Tucker, and Prom Prince Patrick Padgett.
On March 27, the Aiken County Sheriff's office took on a team of students from RSM for an exciting and charitable game of volleyball.  Who won?  Depends on who you ask! All profits from ticket sales went to our local Special Olympics, so our special needs kids were the real winners!
Cristal Gonzalez writes:  Every year since 2009, people all over the world have celebrated Red Hand Day on Feb. 12. This is the day the United Nations issued a proclamation banning the use of child soldiers. Red Hand Day is a protest against the use of child soldiers. Some countries such as Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Somalia, and Syria are still using child soldiers. Mrs. Hostetler and her classes have been reading A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah. This book is about a child soldier telling his life story. After reading the book, her classes decided to celebrate a Red Hand Day on April 25 all on their own. Many students painted their hands red and made a wonderful poster displaying their red hand prints.
Teacher of the Month for April was Coach Gail Johnson, math teacher.  Student of the Month was Alicia Key.

Students enjoyed a boat ride out to the island, a tour of the island, a picnic on the boat, and the opportunity to bring home some of the treasures that they found on the beach. The fifth grade teachers would like to thank all of our chaperones and parents for their support of this field trip. We would also like to say a special thank you to Georgette and Johnny Salters for supplying all of our snacks for the trip.
