Flags are flying half-mast everywhere even on
private property. Our hearts go out to
the victims and their families in Las Vegas.
The mayor of Las Vegas refused to use the murderer's name, only
"that evil person". I know she
is right to do that. He needs NO
publicity for his crimes. Jason Aldeen
sang Tom Petty's song on Saturday Night Live, "I won't back down."
That was just right!!!

Security Federal Bank has been looking at options for locating a branch in Ridge Spring. The First Citizens Bank in Ridge Spring recently closed.
"We are
in the process of completing a feasibility study that will help us determine
the costs associated with opening a branch in Ridge Spring, as well as what we
can expect from community members in the form of deposits and loans,"
according to a statement from Security Federal.
In the statement, Security Federal says that banks are moving out of small towns because it can be hard to make things work from a business perspective. That would be true for Security Federal in Ridge Spring, says the statement, based on preliminary results of the study.
The statement adds that Security Federal is exploring a variety of options with the cooperation of the town in order to keep costs down.
"Serving numerous small communities within our current market area, we recognize the importance of a bank to the economic vitality of a small town, and we’re especially interested in seeing communities like Ridge Spring thrive," says the statement.
The First Citizens Bank in New Ellenton closed Sept. 20. Mallory Holley, marketing director for Security Federal, said they are working with citizens and businesses in New Ellenton to see how they can help meet their needs from the Southside branch. Holley said the Southside branch is located less than 6 miles from downtown New Ellenton.
The closest Security Federal to Ridge Spring is further away.
"Although Ridge Spring-Monetta is geographically located between our Aiken and Lexington branches, we are more than 21 miles from their population center. If we are going to serve community banking needs there, we'll need a closer branch," said Holley.
The statement from the bank said the verdict is still out on Ridge Spring since it has not completed its feasibility study.

Harriet's Garden Tips:
You
can keep your mums blooming by popping off the spent or older blooms. Do a few every day and the color lasts a much
longer time. If you have pansies in
pots, you need to dead head them for the blooms will fall for they will damage
foliage of the plant. If they are in the
ground, that is up to you. My parsley
made it through the caterpillar season.
Enjoy the fall.
